I’ve decided to close and remove the forum on RotR. The reasoning behind it has already been laid out in the forum poll post, but again.

It doesn’t fit into the WordPress kind of things. It is slow and looks ugly in some themes. There are no WordPress alternatives worth digging into. It is not active. Even I do not visit them regularly.

I’ll look into more interactive and integrated possibilities for WordPress. There are some nice integrations with facebook, twitter and the like, it will probably go into this direction.

Anyway, I’ve also decided to link to the two most important community resources for Monster Hunter: GameFAQs and Minegarde. You can find those links in the menu bar, I believe they can not be missed.

If you have anything on the forum you’d like to save, please do so within the next 7 days. I will remove it completely on the 5th of December.

Thanks for your understanding and I really believe that this decision is for the better regarding both the community and RotR itself.

So. Again it has come to this. I’m entertaining a semi-active forum on my page. The forum idea and functionality has been on RotR for two years.

In this two years I’ve scrapped one forum completely and migrated the current forum twice. I’ve always looked at it as a I need to have a forum feature, not as something I like to have.

My caveats with it:
It does not integrate nicely.
it doesn’t look too good with some of the themes.
It is horribly slow.
It’s pretty inactive.
There is one much more active community available.

There are alternatives available like IntenseDebate, which features discussions integrating all major social networks and seamless integration into WordPress. I should add that I’m not looking for alternative forum frameworks here.

So, you see I’m biased towards removing it altogether. Your take? Please comment away.

I’ve decided to keep using the current forum (simple:forum). Migrating to another forum software will mean loosing all posts and metadata and I don’t want that again.

I’ve selected a theme and fixed the display problems. Let me know what you think.

Well, its up, the new forum. I wasn’t able to migrate the old forum posts the easy way, but I will do so with the more important of them later. Meanwhile, check the functionality and discuss what needs to be improved and what not.

There is one moderator, which is me. If this forum gets more active than the last one, we will see who will join forces with me. Let’s go. You can access the forum several ways. I guess you find them.
