The Weapon Calculator
What’s new:
Lord Grahf has done it again. He has revised the damage formulas for Monster Hunter Freedom and discovered some minor differences to the ones of Monster Hunter PS2. Since I had used MH data before, I have now created this new version of the calculator to reflect these changes. The old calculator is located here with all the comments attached.
The major change is in the SnS line, which now really favors raw damage.
Instructions:
This one is really easy to use. Choose the wyvern, your HR, the quest level and the weapon line you’re
interested in. Press Submit and you will see a ProTip ™ and the preferable weapons based
on their damage output against this particular wyvern in descending order (best one first).
Status elements such as poison or paralysis are not taken into account. The PBA or the Expert
Sword for example are very good weapons but they will likely not rank very high in the
results since the specialized (elemental) weapons are almost always better.
So if you are looking for the best all around weapon for your rank and style, use your brains.
Thanks to:
The calculator is based upon Lord Grahfs damage formula for MHF over at http://www.gamefaqs.com. These formulas have been tried and true since MH on the PS2. I cannot but express my deepest gratitude for the tremendous efforts the Lords have put in this work.
| ProTip ™: . Calculated with hits | |||
| Rank | Name (Dmg) | Rank | Name (Dmg) |
function setField(name, value) { alert("abc"); var f = document.forms[0]; for(var i = 0; f.elements.length; i++) { var elem = f.elements[i]; if (elem.name == name) { elem.value = value; break; } } }

wow cool are you sure you dont wanna keep kill crimson for armor? :S
and home button as logo would be good or mayb both
but i wanna see an article about you beating crimson tell us how to do it! I thought do it with schism so i wanna know about this
I have 4 quests left to do
so wot ur saying is i shouldnt use fire because its 80% resistant to it?
No. He is resistant to all elements, but fire and dragon the least. Fire weapon generally have better raw than water weapons, so the 10% difference and the raw damage puts them in front.
dont disagree with the pro!
I have a question. euhm… against a hard Lao Shan you suggest these
1 Expert Hammer (~223 dmg) 2 Ham of Hams (~219 dmg)
3 Pulsating Core (~213 dmg) 4 Sanctioned Hammer (~202 dmg)
5 Onslaught Hammer (~191 dmg) 6 Devil Masher (~191 dmg)
7 Wolf Torrent (~182 dmg) 8 Dead Revolver (~182 dmg)
9 Dragon Destroyer (~182 dmg) 10 The Kick(~2 dmg)
About the Dragon Destroyer the improvement ( Dragonbreaker )of it has better raw dmg and better elemental dragon dmg. So why isn’t it posted in the the top 10 ? ( No offense I like this calculator cause it helped me alot past the few days but still i needed to know this)
Dragon Breaker wold be at least better than Devil Masher they both have 1040 raw but dragon breake has 230 dragon instead of 240 stun
Can you make Dragon Breaker with HR2 parts? If so, I wil include him.
For Dragonbreaker you need some parts from a hard Lao. So you should need to do the urgent from HR2 to HR3. Then you will have enough equipment if you’re lucky. Otherwise you need to do it over. You can do the urgent easely with Dragon Destroyer. You just need to hit his stomach at all times and use the dragonater asell. ( Dragon Destroyer is easy, but just for repeling him)
you can make it and selenia someone has been impersonating me just saying im a noob could you delete them plzz
This is wildly inaccurate, it diminishes the effects of elemental damage to essentially nil. No way in hell is djinn going to do more damage on lao than the eternal strife.
Sorry, Anonymous, you’re wrong. Yes way Djinn does more damage to Lao than ES.
wat makes you think ur right “anonymous”
lol i love these people
I’m An anoni-mouse!
well wat makes your think your right?
Wow… i must be some kinda miricle worker, it shows me i should have some kinda god wepon to kill a gravios…i did it with an iron lance
Excuse me, I don’t mean to doubt you or your website, or Grahf but I find it somewhat to believe that a SnS does more damage than a GS in one circular hit. It just doesn’t make sense. Why would capcom incorperate such an odd damage set up.If SnS trully do more damage than any other weapons, why don’t people stop bickering and start using the SnS instead of any other weapon. Furthermore, if the SnS does more damage than the GS, why did they give the illusion of GSs having 1000+ attack yet they are weaker than SnS. Btw…. I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just curious (I love using SnS) Thank you
It’s just the way Capcom programmed the code to determine damage. They wanted the weapon classes to feel and look different (thus the class modifiers) and at the same time to be balanced (you should need a set time for Los with a Sns or a GS, doesn’t matter).
In MHF2 they have done it much better (the balancing).
Why haven’t you included the emerald sprear + in the lances. Is it not good enough, becasue that is what I use on Basarios….. Alos, do you have any factual info on how to get hard monster bones… I’ve tried many wyverns in hr4 but haven’t gotten one. Which one will have the greatest odds at getting one?? Thank you
Hrd Monster Bones can be obtained by the Cephadrome quest. 1-2 every other quest.
If I like using SnS, what the best way to beat WoLaS elder quest Currently I’m using the tundertip, but I am trying to get the expert sword
Any other somewhat easy G-ranked wyvern that gives hrd monster bones?

oh yeah, one more thing There are very few things like my rainy bus Fresh joke! How do they put out fires at the post office? They stamp them out.
Yo! I’m doing some calculations with Hammers and Azure Lao, i guess im doing something wrong…
For Hammers: Attack Up Large[10]+ Power Charm[6]+ Power Talon[9]+ Power Pill[25] = 50 x 5,2[Hammer Class] = 260
Triple Pound(172%) on Stomach
Expert Hammer(green Sharpness) 1144 + 260 -> 1404 x 1,72 x 1,125 x 0,5 / 5,2 = 261
Onslaught Hammer(Blue Shapness) 1092 + 260 -> 1352 x 1,72 x 1,25 x 0,5 / 5,2 = 279
Onslaught Hammer is Better? Or i’m doing something wrong?
By the way “Ceramic Blos lance” is a HR1 Weapon
Fixed Sharpness values for Expert Hammer and Onslaught. You are doing it right.
Well, i did a few calculations, trying to get a good weapon for four horns, alot of people say get Frost Edge +
This is what i ended up with,
Onslaught Hammer
[ATP]: 1352
[TYPE]: Triple Pound = 176%
[SHARP]: Blue (1.250)
[HITZONE]: 50 (Diablos Stomach)
[VAR]: none
[CLASS]: 5.2
1351 x 1.76 x 1.250 x .50 x 1.0 / 5.2 = 285
Frost Edge +
[ATP]: 279
[TYPE]: Full Combo = 88%
[SHARP]: Green (1.125)
[HITZONE]: 40 (Diablos Stomach)
[VAR]: 1.5
[CLASS]: 1.4
279 x .88 x 1.125 x .40 x 1.5 / 1.4 = 118
[ELEMENT]: 480
[ESHARP]: 1.0
[ELMZONE]: 20 (Diablos Stomach)
[DIVIDER]: 10
480 x 1.0 x .20 / 10 = 9
Total Attack Power = 118 + (9 x 6) = 172
By full combo i mean Jump slash (Tri + O) Triange combo (4 hits) with O at the end, which takes around the same time as a triple pound (i’m assuming, i don’t use hammers much) and you can see the hammer does ALOT more damage, why use frost edge?
(Oh, and am i doing the calculations right?)
Oh also, those were with Power Talon, Power Charm, Attack up large, and Power Pill.
The formula’s you’ve used look alright and I assume the result is valid, still: You are not often going to get a triple pound in and what kicks the hammer over the top is the last pound of the three. So you are normally facing more like 80% for a double pound or 72% for a superpound.
SnS is much more mobile, able to block and you can stream the damage more fluently. Over time I’d say you will deal more damage with SnS than with Hammer.
That’s for MHF. On MHF2 it’s completely different.
The Kick(~2 dmg)
^_^
Ya, I attaced a Diablos for like five minutes, then out of nowhere, then my sister comes up and presses the Select button and it dies! LOL
For Hard Monster BOnes and Consistent Monster BOne+’s your going to want to wait untill HR3. The Cephadrome quests and the yian kutku have given them to me, but not as consistent on the kutku mayb 1 every 3-5 runs.
I did notice something, you don’t have gunbows listed as a choice type, that would be rather useful to determine a most effective shot choice so one doesn’t have half to all their inventory taken up by shot, no?
It would be useful, but I won’t do it, sorry.
