Another newsbit came out just now. CAPCOM Japan is porting MHP3 to the PS3, seemingly without changing anything in the game.

Well, I don’t know if this is good or something since the PS3 has so much more potential than the PSP, but well, shall we complain about everything?

I guess some of you guys read my jQuery plugin post the other day. This plugin is to be used and inserted by webadmins. Now what if the admin of your most loved site isn’t able or willing to do so?

No problem anymore. I’ve created a bookmarklet based on that jQuery plugin which does the same for you on every page you are visiting. You only have to select the text you want to translate and hit the bookmarklet.

First of all you need to take the link below and drag it into you shortcut bar or simply add it as a bookmark.

MHP3 Translations

By clicking on that bookmark (or selecting it from the menu) and having some text selected you will get a small popup showing all possible translations for that text. As of now, mostly item names and monsters. Hover over the popup to make it disappear.

And that’s it.

Technical details: The bookmarklet loads an external script from RotR which then queries the database via JSONP and plugs the result into a prepared container. Easy as that.

The True Face

So, one of the many new things in MH is one which looks like a major gamechange but in truth is just cosmetics: The new raw attack values of all weapons.

What has happened?

Prior to this installment all MH games had a so-called class modifier which boosted the true raw attack power to some obscene values. It was done to demonstrate the devastating powers of a hammer hit compared to the nettling of a dual sword. However, when calculating the damage done to a monster, those class modifiers were taken out.

So your 1612 Magnitude hammer in MHFU is for example only 310 in true raw power. Well, only is not a good expression here.

MHP3 has all class modifiers taken out, you see only the true raw powers of the weapons. So all beginner weapons, be it Great Sword or SnS start with around 50-75 raw, making them somewhat comparable. However, the game mechanics hasn’t changed.

The Monsters of MHP3: #10 Nargacuga

Yes, Nargacuga is back in MHP3. He is a forest dweller, specializing in deft attacks from your blind side. He is one of the wyverns which gave me the most trouble in MHFU (although most players find him manageable).

All his jumping, zigzagging and leaving my field of vision has lead to me being tossed like lettuce. I love that he’s back.

The Monsters of MHP3: #9 Agnaktor

Agnaktor, Mr. Drill, was introduced in MH3. A fire based wyvern, I would never have guessed it, he lives in the Volcano areas. He is a fun fight, kind of, with his burrowing, drilling and ceiling tricks. Intermediate difficulty I’d say.

MHP3 Demo Impressions

This link sends you to the recent uploaded MHP3 vids, which, oh the suspense is killing me, consists of 99% demo vids. Mostly Japanese but some English speakers are there too. Get your impressions about how Wii graphics look in the PSP.

For the uninformed: The demo has Royal Ludroth and Ice Barroth as monsters, you can play adhoc or solo with up to two cats. The areas are the Flooded Forest (without underwater parts) and the new Ice Mountain (without Deviljho, phew).

Injecting Life

Ok. I had a plan and I tried to pursue it for some months, but ultimately it failed because of me being unable to communicate clearly. Those involved know what I mean.

So, starting this week I will dedicate some time for RotR again. Mostly redecorating everything, but the main issue targeted right now is the site’s performance which was lacking, to say the least.

Right now it’s satisfying, tell me what you think and feel.

All old themes have been scrapped, they were an administrative nightmare for me. While being nice and dandy, each small change on the site was followed by adaptions in each of the themes. So they had to go, being replaced with what you see now.

The comments have been reopened and I really appreciate the people which posted in the temporary page. Thanks, guys.

If you encounter any glitch with the pages, comment away, but be patient please. I’ll also try to set up something MHP3 related as the demo comes out tomorrow (Okt. 13) in the Japanese PSN.
