Fresh’s Cheesy Tactic of the Week: The Unreachable Corner
This one is tricky and it has only three or four valid targets. Still doing it is swiss cheese and just please don’t. Don’t.
What defines the tactic?
In some areas there are spots which cannot be reached by specific monsters attacks. Only some limited attacks are able to reach you there, in the case of Volganos for example only his fireball. So it’s safe to stand there and shoot away.
Where can I use it?
The famous ones are the Volganos exit in Area #10 and the exit to Area #10 in the Jungle. Less known and not working as good as the two mentioned before is Garuga in the training area, where he can’t reach the spot with the Supply LBB.
In total I only know of those three, but I’m sure there are more, probably limited areas for this.
The main use is definitely Volganos as he tends to give newbies a hard time.
How do I use it?
Find the spot, camp there and do your worst. Normally you’ll use ranged weapons, in the case of Garuga training it’s the Lance which is used there in the corner. You must be sure to avoid those few attacks which can reach you like fireballs. Garuga’s charge for example does not reach you.
What are the pros?
Well. Not much at all. It’s a very limited tactic and used only if you absolutely unable to survive a given monster the normal way. I for one find it hard to avoid the Volganos fireball in the exit area as he can target it during his attack, unlike Plesioth water spit which is set when he turns.
However abusing it in the Garuga lance training gives you the finish on this somewhat harder quest.
What are the cons?
See above. Not many areas available, limited use of weaponry and the feeling of guilt lasts long on your conscience. Just don’t tell anybody.
Why is it cheesy?
I believe you already smell the cheese by reading what I’ve typed so far. It’s a abuse of a glitch the programmers left in. Unlike my previous cheesy tactics (Legding and Turtling) which were mechanics the game is providing the area exit glitch is pure abuse.
Conclusion
No. Don’t do it. Try it some time for laughs (seeing Garuga’s charge coming at you and just fail inches before your shield is a nice view) but just don’t do it.

i did the volganos thing just for fun in the g-class training thing xD it’s quite funny to see him swim at you and be stuck in place
I use it because Volganos doesn’t deserve a real battle. Usually, when I fight him, I have to do it several times in a row to get what I want, so this saves a lot of time. Also, the fireball’s easy to avoid. Just turn and roll out the door. Or with a bow, just backhop… Hm, could work with Lances/Gunlances, I suppose. I’ve never felt guilty, I just laughed.
rofl, never knew this…
probably I’ll never use it, it’s lame.
Very similiar to Zoning. I admit I used zoning a fair bit on my first Tigrex fight. Snowy Mountain’s northern-most area is just too small to be fighting a Tigrex without a blocking ability.
You’ve forgotten the ‘hole-in-the-wall’ abuse for area 8 in the mountains, most famously used for shooting kirin with pellets.
In fact, we should just say that ranging anything is cheesy.
@draconaticus
Except then you’d get crucified by maze.
I already tried the Volganos thing already… Well, it feels kinda stupid to see him desperately trying to hit you while you stand there and laugh. I fought him at the corner using a HBG for 10 minutes before coming out and got pwned by his body slam. lol
That’s dangerously cheesy!
I hate volganos, but I’d rather use a hammer..
Although… His U-turn swim is so cheap I wouldn’t feel bad to cheat.
